Over the past years, the European Commission has encouraged citizens to take part in research in practical ways. These experiences show that when people are directly involved in science, research becomes more relevant, more transparent, and more connected to everyday life. This Citizen Science month, the #European-Commission-Joint-Research-Centre highlights how people across Europe are taking part in research: by sharing local observations, joining community science projects, and working with researchers on real-world challenges that affect everyday life. EU Science, Research and Innovation continues to support citizen science and are working to embed this approach more firmly into Europe’s research and innovation system, as part of the broader European Research Area (ERA) approach on science and society. This means improving how scientists and citizens work together, encouraging countries to learn from each other’s experiences, and helping more people, especially the youth, take part in science in meaningful ways.
