A well-crafted Data Management Plan (DMP) is a critical tool to ensure robust data management planning. It outlines how data will be handled throughout its lifecycle, ensuring proper collection, documentation, accessibility, and preservation. Key topics include data collection and categorization, storage and processing, analysis, publication and access, archival, reuse, and erasure.

Produced by the
UNESCO/IOC Project Office for IODE, these guidelines aim to support stakeholders who are responsible for the good data management of the outputs of a project or program which creates, collects or otherwise acquires data relating to the oceans. It may also be used by project or program leads who are responsible for ensuring a data management plan is created in order to fulfill funding requirements.
