Plastic Pirates Germany announces their campaign has been extended until December 2027. This means there is still another exciting year and a half ahead to carry out several new activities and developments:
10th Anniversary of Plastic Pirates Germany: This fall, they will celebrate the 10th anniversary of Plastic Pirates Germany. To mark this milestone, schools across Germany will once again be invited to participate in Plastic Pirates samplings along rivers and beaches.
New sampling method: Introducing a new sampling method focusing on epibionts living on macroplastics, based on the methodology developed within the Ocean Travelers project of the Smithsonian Institute. More information is available here: https://serc.si.edu/participatory-science/projects/ocean-travelers.
Focus group discussions with selected participating school classes from coastal regions will take place to discuss their sampling results and explore their perceptions of microplastics and plastic pollution.
TOOLS4CLEANBANOS Horizon Europe project: Plastic Pirates Germany is also a partner in the TOOLS4CLEANBANOS Horizon Europe project ("Tools for Overcoming Riverine and Marine Litter: Solutions for a Clean Baltic Sea and North Sea"), which officially starts in September 2026.
Congratulations, Team Plastic Pirates Germany!
